MOT Checks - What is tested?

We strongly recommend your car is regularly serviced by a local garage, however if you are a competent home mechanic or you're halfway between services, here are some common points you can check before your MOT to avoid needing a re-test.

The following are a selection of simple to test items, all of which can lead to an easily avoidable MOT failure.

  • Tyres : Should have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm across the centre three quarters of tread
  • Lights : Should be clean and fully working. Common failure points include parking lights and number plate lights, which are often overlooked, and easily repaired.
  • Windscreen wipers and washers : Should all be functioning correctly
